Preparation for Upcoming Negotiations Year

To begin preparing for the upcoming round of negotiations, as our Central and Local Agreements end August 31st of 2019, the Executive of Sector 3 - Boards of Education and Cultural Institutions have created a demand set survey. This will provide us with an understanding of issues from most to least importance so we can assure we are bargaining for you! We need you to complete the Demand Set Survey by Wednesday March 20th, 2019. A time and opportunity for you to have input! To access the Survey Click Here.

The Local and the Provincial Sector Executive are following and will continue follow the recent developments from the announcements by the Minister of Education regarding the Ontario Autism Program and the changes, cuts and impacts to the Education Sector in Ontario! Some of the recent attacks from the Ford Government have been, the Curriculum, Class Sizes and Funding Sources to name a few. How this will affect the Board’s budget remains to be seen. Rest assured that we will be engaged and actively participating in fighting for our fair treatment and a fair contract.

Hope to see you Tuesday!

Kind regards,

Kelly Martin

President and Sector 3 Chair

Form B - Strike Preparations

Recently, Local 330 distributed forms regarding strike pay to either your school or mailed to your home, if you are a supply staff. The forms are being distributed as a preparatory measure as part of the process of getting ready for a strike not because we are in a Strike position. If you do not fill out the form there may be a delay if strike pay is needed. If you are unable to get your union membership number, leave it blank and it will be filled in at the office. The LEC (Local Executive Committee) signature will be completed at the office, as the forms are received.

Local Bargaining Update

On January 22 your bargaining team met with the SCDSB for our 2nd day of conciliation.  While both parties committed to work towards obtaining a deal, progress was slow.   Late Friday the Employer asked to seek leave to obtain a legal opinion on a matter that arose during the negotiation process.  Your team has agreed to the extension, and we have set aside additional conciliation dates, starting February 16th.

In the meantime, your executive and stewards will continue to prepare for all possible outcomes.   Please ensure your contact information is available to your Local. There are forms that are required to be completed in the event talks break down.  These MUST be done now.

Remember conciliation is very serious, and each and everyone of us should be prepared for every possible outcome.
,We are not working towards a Strike but in the event, we need everyone to be prepared.

Many members have asked for the results of the Central Ratification votes within OPSEU and for our local. I requested this information from the Negotiating team and was told that our Local voted 64% in favour and that all the other local, results were positive and ratified with high numbers.

Please be sure to check your emails, check out our Website, Facebook and Twitter pages for local updates and important information.

OPSEU Constitution states that locals must hold two General Membership meetings annually, please SAVE THE DATE! Our General Membership meeting will be February 17, 2016. Location is still being confirmed. Notice to follow, later this week.

In Solidarity,
Kelly Martin

Important Update Re: OLRB Charges

On Friday January 15, the Board filed charges at the Ontario Labour Relations Board respecting the job sanctions which the Local had asked all members to engage in.

We have now reached an agreement with the Board to resolve those charges and wish to be clear with all members that we are not asking you to engage in any kind of work slowdown or "work to rule" campaign. Please continue to perform all your usual tasks in the same manner as you have previously performed them.

Reminder - Central Ratification Vote Wednesday January 20th 5:30- 7:30

This is a reminder about the Central Ratification Vote being held at Bear Creek Secondary School from 5:30 until 7:30 on Wednesday January 20th.

Members have the opportunity to ask any questions of the Central Negotiating team they have before voting, or can simply walk in and vote (Bring your union card for even faster voting!).
